Bill Condon is the director behind the legendary films, Gods and Monsters, about gay director James Whale; the Dr. Alfred Kinsey chronology, Kinsey; and the award-winning musical, Dreamgirls. Condon also wrote the script for the movie-musical Chicago.
Condon was born in Queens, New York in 1955. He attended Regis High School, an all-male Jesuit school in Manhattan. It is said he met his first boyfriend there.
Condon later studied philosophy at Columbia University. In 1976, he moved to L.A. to pursue film and later landed a script-writing job for the horror films, Strange Behavior (1981) and Strange Invaders (1983). After a series of thriller and horror movies, Bill Condon directed the acclaimed Gods and Monsters, starring Sir Ian McKellen and Brendan Fraser.
In 2002, Condon wrote the screen adaptation of the popular musical, Chicago. Two years later, Condon directed Kinsey, a film about the life of Dr. Alfred Kinsey and his controversial studies of human sexuality.
The spotlight continued to shine on Bill Condon in 2006 with the highly anticipated theatrical release of Dreamgirls. The gay-favorite screen-adaptation of the Broadway musical tells the story of a soul trio struggling through the turbulent Motown 60's. The film has been nominated for eight 2007 Academy Awards.
Bill Condon currently lives in Los Angeles with his partner.
